Thanks for the reply. If you like fernet check out the Midnight Stinger. Awesome fernet cocktail. Tuve Fernet is a favorite that seems to have disappeared from our local market. Price was good. Must check out the Luxardo, every thing they make seems good.
Luxardo is even better, I forgot. And at a supreme price point here too. Are there any other Fernets if I want to explore the category? Tuve is nowhere to be found, tried to find it. But while i was looking for it I found a vintage bottle of Martini E Rossi Fernet with 45 abv.
What Fernet do you prefer?
Fernet Branca or Luxardo unbeatable at the price point, Branca brings a little sweetness that other FErnets dont.
I have the Tempus Fugit one, Fernet del Frate. I received it as a gift and loved it right away, but when I learned that it is 55 € in Germany where Branca is 15 €, i knew I wouldn't restock on it.
In a kind of ‘perfect’ version, split the gin between standard and navy strength, Cynar and Averna (best mates), and Rosso Antico with punt e mes. Kind of demonstrating, no matter how much you mess around with it, negroni is a pretty spectacular formula.
Turned out great. Thanks for the recipe.
My tour goes on: This has always been a little lacking. What made it a 5+ cocktail for me, is the addition of Cynar 70.
Cynar 70 is really good stuff. I highly recommend it. Where the regular Cynar feels a little thin, this one is intense, much deeper and full bodied. Has hints of menthol, licorice and even a fruit stew, wine-like nose. And much more pronounced artichoke aroma. Cough syrup also comes to mind (but in the good ways) ;-)
Also try the Midnight Marauder and the Cin-Cyn with it!
Definitely Campari-forward, and how could it not be? As others have mentioned, this is a drink that rewards patience. I get herbal notes from the gin and vermouth, and a bit of mint from the Fernet. The one element that does get a bit lost is the Cynar. Overall a very good drink for a specific mood.
Try Cynar 70 and it turns out great! Has been the missing piece for me.
Great cocktail, did also try it with the Cynar 70.

I would also recommend the Eeyore's Requiem and in the Cin-Cyn with it.
Trying some of the Cynar recipies. I'm using the 70 proof. Strongly recommend this and the Cin-Cyn.

Can also recommend it in the Eeyore's Requiem in addition to the aforementioned cocktails.

Cynar 70 is really good. In cocktails or over ice. I have been suprised by how good it is in comparison.
Depends highly on the mezcal I think. Should be as smokey as possible. Tried it with Del Maguey Vida Classic and thought it was a bit lackluster. Think this needs balancing. More dilution + upping the mezcal does work well for me.
Chinotto liqueur, Orange-red aperitivo, Saline solution 4:1, Rye whiskey 50% abv
I only have Del Maguey. Any recommendations for a mezcal like you're suggesting?
I like Alipus Mezcal (Santa Ana del Rio / more of a cold smoke: think Lagavulin, lemony) or Derrumbes (Potosi / interesting, fruitier) Mezcals.
Tried it with higer proof Bourbon, Campari and 5 ml heavily carbonated water.
Kind of nice, needs tweaks though.
A bar spoon of agave syrup helps this one feel a bit fuller in the middle, but a very good drink overall.
Or test Tequila Reposado instead of blanco, slightly sweet edge and vanilla notes do it for me.
I was really pleasantly suprised by this. Think of it as a herbal, minty, not too sweet coke with a little oomph. Liked it a lot.
More than any other Cola + X drinks.
Really tasty drink, that demands some patience, do not judge it too fast. After the first bitterness has softened up your tongue it opens up a lot.

Sipsmith/El Bandarra Vermouth/Campari/Mattei Cap Corse Aperitif Quinquina Blanc
I love the spice mezcal brings to a Negroni that is going beyond the mellowness of a regular Negroni and much rougher than a boulevardier. I still wouldn't choose a very smokey mezcal, as the flavor will stand out a lot. I use a tamer mezcal with fruitier notes than for example Del Maguey Vida.
The quest for the perfect Megroni is on!
Blanco tequila, Orange-red aperitivo, Red quinquina e.g. Dubonnet, Byrrh, Coffee liqueur, Lavender bitters
