Ok, I "cheated" a little. I added a bar spoon (5 ml?) of cherry syrup and 7.5 ml of rich Syrup to give a little added sweetness. For my palate, it totally worked. Cheers, all!

Perhaps there is just a little too much going on here. We really enjoy the simpler Old Money #2.

Hadn't heard of that one, so I looked it up. Not sure how different Walnut liqueur (which I don't have) is from, say, Amaro Montenegro (which I do have and find a little nutty), so maybe that's a simplification I will try.

I look at cocktail recipes like this in the same vein as Geoffrey Rush's character in the Pirates of the Caribbean films: "More of a set of guidelines, rather than rules". So, I would like to encourage those who found this cocktail to be less than inspiring to tweak the ratios a little to find their desired way to complement the bourbon, which should be the star by which you should navigate ;-).

Well, this turned out better than expected. The mint is always great with bourbon, but the split base is a great idea. I cheated some by adding an extra.25 oz of syrup, then decided to add .25 Dom Benedictine. Maybe a touch sweet, so I'll try .5 Rich Syrup with the Dom. Also, I used Trav's Original Bitters, instead of Ango (small Canadian bitters makers, look them up). These OG bitters are a cross between Ango and Peychaud. Really, really good.

Maybe my basil leaves were too small. Couldn't taste the basil. Added .25 oz elderflower liqueur. Decent Devil's Lemonade, but won't revisit until I have bigger basil.

I will try this cocktail, but there is some historical info people should know. I, for one, am a big fan of post-punk, of which one band was called Joy Division. The singer took his own life and the rest of the band went on to become New Order, one of the "granddaddies" of EDM (Electronic Dance Music, for any fuddy-duddies out there ;-). It gets more bizarre and dark...Joy Division was also the name of a WW2 German Army corps, made up of women, whose main purpose was "gratification". Cheers?

Made this with Ardbeg Uigeadail and what a dance it did in my mouth. It was sweetness by the bonfire. Would dance again.

I'll try it with a Bowmore 14 before the Uigeadail. Just to ensure I'm headed in the right direction lol. Made with Uigeadail, that's a $50 cocktail in a bar lol. Fortunately, I have a bottle, acquired at a nice price ($105 CAD).
