The combination of Cynar with grapefruit bitters is a small act of genius: they play off each so beautifully, as well with gin herbals (Plymouth here). I try negroni riffs a lot, and this one stands out from the crowd for me. I served on a Rock - trying to temper the continued warm weather.

Particularly appreciated pun in the title - OG being one of less favourite pretentious trendy expressions. A characteristically wodehosian piece of culture jamming by Jason Clapham. I dips me lid.

Very good, something like an aperitif disguised as a digestif. Surprisingly dry, and slightly bitter, and the grapefruit bitters are a nice touch.

Was looking for a good aperitivo to have before an Italian dinner. Nicely bitter with the herbal falvours from the gin. Grapefruit bitters add a slight hint of citrus. Not overly sweet.

Is that red or white vermouth? Not sure what an "Old Gin cocktail" is, but with red vermouth (my guess) this looks like a "dry" Negroni variation.

Finally got around to trying this, using Carpano Antica and the "low octane" (16.5%) version of Cynar, which I upped to 3/4 oz (same as the vermouth) so it wouldn't get lost. Left the gin at 1.75 oz for a "dry Negroni" effect. Cynar instead of Campari is a great variation, and the proportions make for a lighter, drier cocktail that lets the herbal aspects of the ingredients come through rather than being overwhelmed by sweet and bitter flavors. A great aperitivo, and a great kickoff to International Negroni Week (negroniweek.com) even though it doesn't use Campari.

Yup, sweet vermouth.
