Extremely well balanced. I used the excellent Lustau East India sherry and it was wonderful, adding dry and salty notes.
Overall, rather sweet up front, particularly from the licor 43 (not a massive fan), quickly replaced by bitter, herbal and fruity characters, and even a little smokiness. Very dessert-like and pleasant. Perhaps pair with a crème brûlée and fresh berries, or a sticky date pudding.

I found the Velveteen to be a fine, if unremarkable, drink. Orange notes were very present between the bitters, twist, and Averna. I tasted oange and sherry sweetness at first, followed in the evolution by a light vanilla bitterness from the amaro and Licor 43. Overall, a good drink but wholly unexciting.

I was a bit hesitant with the low rating on the discerning drinks side. We found this fabulours, the sherry came through nicely and as a sherry fan it was just perfect. 4.5 for us
