Ingredients:
1 12 oz Irish whiskey
12 oz Rémy Martin V.S.O.P. cognac
14 oz Monin Grenadine Syrup
14 oz Monin Pure Cane Syrup (65.0°brix, equivalent to 2:1 rich syrup)
23 oz Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
12 oz Egg white (pasteurised) or Aquafaba (chickpea water) or 3 dashes Fee Brothers Fee Foam cocktail foamer

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill a Coupe glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of lemon wedge .
  3. SHAKE all ingredients with ice and strain back into shaker.
  4. DRY SHAKE (without ice).
  5. FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

GLOOM LIFTER
1 part Sugar Syrup
2 parts Lemon Juice
6 parts Irish Whisky
1 Egg White to each 2 drinks
Shake with cracked ice

The recipe above vaguely reminded me of a Scofflaw, but lacking the dynamic bite of rye and vermouth. The drink was ok... I made the quoted Embury recipe after that and that was interesting as I could clearly taste the Irish whiskey (Powers), but it did need a slight boost in lemon and sugar. Set me off on aimless spec journey. If 6:2:1.5 is the sweet spot, let me know.

So why is it a variation with cognac from the original recipe? I think I prefer with jus straight Irish whiskey

Delightful. Refreshing and not sweet. Very well balanced. The cognac adds a nice counter balance to the Irish Whiskey.
