3 fl oz Rioja (Crianza) red wine
1 fl oz Orange juice (freshly squeezed)
13 fl oz Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
16 fl oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2 sugar to 1 water) 65.0°Brix
112 fl oz Monin Cinnamon Syrup
34 fl oz Thomas Henry Soda Water

How to make

Glassware

Serve in a Goblet glass

Prepare

  1. Select and pre-chill a GOBLET GLASS.
  2. Prepare garnish of strawberry slices, orange and lemon slice wheels, and mint sprigs.

Method

  1. STIR first 6 ingredients with ice.
  2. STRAIN into ice-filled glass.
  3. TOP with soda.

This version of Spanish Sangria was popular in 19th-century America. The only real difference is that while Sangria is usually made in batches, Sangria is single-serve.

Doing a bit of basic research on the sangria/sangaree, the Wikipedia entry emphasises the Spanish origins of sangria, but identifies a separate development in the Caribbean of Sangaree single serve, which migrated to the US in the early colonial period.

This was great. We did have a little champagne left over from earlier so we used that instead of the club soda. I think there is a mistake - it asks for sugar syrup and cinnamon syrup. No metion of soda.
