Prepare

  1. Select and pre-chill a NICK & NORA GLASS.
  2. Prepare garnish of Tootsie Roll chew &/or skewered Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

Method

  1. STIR all ingredients with ice.
  2. FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

History

Adapted from a 2015 recipe created by Aisha Sharpe in New York City, USA. Another version of this cocktail, also adapted from a recipe by Aisha Sharpe, calls for 60ml aged rum, 12.5ml maple syrup, and 6 drops of chocolate bitters.

For non-USA readers, a Tootsie Roll is chocolate-flavoured caramel candy that's been made in Chicago, Illinois since 1907 and was the first American "penny candy" to be individually wrapped.

This isn't bad - but DOES NOT TASTE LIKE A TOOTSIE ROLL. IMO, the best Tootsie Roll is equal parts dark creme de cacao/triple sec/cream - the color is off (it is tan) but the taste is spot on! My version is (per my notes) called a Velvet Hammer - there are already a couple of drinks called that here so I won't add to the confusion. But if you want to taste a Tootsie Roll - try the recipe I list above!!

Other websites have a really different recipe with rye, and sherry which I think is more on point with the Tootsie Roll flavor. The recipe above ends up being too similar to a Maple Old-Fashioned

Very nice drink, always a success, either as a late night drink or shooter.
I've tested with both Havana Club 3 and 7 years andthe former is a better fit here.
