Blue Moon Cocktail (Dale DeGroff's recipe)

Serve in a Coupe glass

Ingredients:
1 fresh Blueberries (fresh)
2 oz Ketel One Vodka
1 barspoon Oolong tea
12 oz Elderflower liqueur
34 oz Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
12 oz Agave syrup
1 fresh Sage leaves
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill a Coupe glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of sage leaf and blueberry.
  3. Lightly MUDDLE blueberries in base of shaker (just to break skin).
  4. ADD vodka and one heaped spoon of oolong tea and stir in base of shaker for 60 seconds (or better still, leave to steep for ten minutes).
  5. Add other ingredients and SHAKE with ice.
  6. FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.
  7. Garnish with sage leaf and skewered blueberry.

Adapted from a recipe created in 2010 by Dale DeGroff, New York, USA. Blue moon is an astronomical term for the second of two full moons to occur in the same calendar month.

I made this twice, first with the above recipe, then a second time using a hybrid of the above recipe and the recipe posted by Dale DeGroff in an article on Liquor.com ... I'd say stick to one sage leaf as it'll fight with the oolong for attention. Also, the 4-5 berries Dale uses could be lowered to 2-3, as it'll heavily hue the drink, but don't go too low that it can't be tasted. Finish off with 10 ml agave nectar, and that was my (not quite ideal) happy medium.

In my opinion this cocktail should have at least a splash of citrus.

Was looking for a cocktail using Oolong, one if my favourite teas. This is a superb use of it. The finished cocktail is summery & complex with a long flavour. The addition of the sage leaf is inspired. Recommend as a daytime cocktail.

I agree with all above. Also the picture doesn't do it much justice. The 10 min laps to infuse the tea leaves give this drink an eye-pleasing indigo hue.
