History

The Kentucky Derby has long been associated with the Mint Julep and in 1959, the folk behind the Florida Derby turned to a famous local bar in search of a libation to serve at their own racecourse, Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach. So, in 1959, Mariano Licudine at The Mai-Kai Polynesian Restaurant and Tiki bar in Oakland Park, Florida, created the Derby, the official cocktail of the Florida Derby.

Very nice. We used a blended Caribbean rum along with tangerine juice for a switch. It was very good.

A delicious orange daiquiri twist that I twisted a little further by using Havana Club 3 year old and a dash of Bob's (and your) Daiquiri bitters. If the original is a Derby, then mine is a Peckham Daiquiri!

Tis indeed delicious. And Peckham sits in the centre of my spiritual home, South London.
