History:

Created on a beautifully warm blue-skied summer's evening in June 2022 by yours truly at the Clocktower in Rye, England. As I said, this is a transportive cocktail. Open fires are optional.

I've since discovered there is a cocktail named "The Kummel Ye Faithful" (made with equal parts gin, kummel, and cream) in the 1929 book Judge Jr. Here's How Again!.

The Kummel Ye Faithful
And how they will gather around if they know this is what they're going to get!
1/3 Gordon water
1/3 Kummel
1/3 Cream (thin)

Judge Jr., Here's How Again, 1929

Nutrition:

One serving of Kummel Ye Faithful contains 115 calories

Alcohol content:

  • 1.2 standard drinks
  • 30.78% alc./vol. (30.78° proof)
  • 17 grams of pure alcohol

Very interesting combo - didn’t quite come together for me, but could be down to choice of ingredients? I used Perro e San Juan, Glamorganie, lustau PX, Oldesloer kümmel (only one Ive been able to get). No liquorice bitters so a small dash of fernet branca. I added a dash of cognac which seemed to make things more harmonious. Interested to hear others’ thoughts…

I made the 1929 equal parts Kümmel Ye Faithful drink. It's a simple straight swig of creamy cumin. It needs something additional for depth. A touch of orange? Gonna play with it again sometime.

Simon, what was the inspiration for this? I feel like you really have to be in tune with these ingredients to come up with this. It’s way more elegant and inviting than most of these ingredients show themselves to be. Well done, sir!

I've no idea! Sometimes I make a cocktail with a couple of ingredients and that can lead me to switch some of the other ingredients to make a new, completely different cocktail. Other times I start from scratch. Now nearly a year on, I can't remember what lead to the Kummel Ye Faithful.
