Ingredients:
1 12 oz Blended Scotch whisky
13 oz Cointreau triple sec liqueur
56 oz Strucchi Rosso Vermouth
13 oz Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill a Coupe glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.
  3. SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into chilled glass.
  5. EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

Review:

Joe Gilmore made this with lime juice but it's much better with lemon juice. Indeed I'm guilty of also tweaking the proportions of the other ingredients to make this rendition of the Churchill to confirm more to my tastes. Hopefully, Joe would have approved.

History:

Named after the legendary Prime Minister, this cocktail was created by Joe Gilmore during his tenure bartending (1940 to 1976) at The Savoy Hotel's American Bar, the oldest surviving cocktail bar in London.

Rather good but left me with a feeling it lacked a specific trait, something on par with its name.

Enjoyed this before dinner. Interesting combination of flavours from the Whisky and vermouth. Lemon adds a nice citrus hint, but not overpowering. Slight sweetness but perfect as an aperitif.
