Ingredients:
2 oz Caribbean blended rum aged 6-10 years
12 oz Amaro Montenegro
12 oz Giffard Pamplemousse liqueur
34 oz Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill a Coupe glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of lemon zest twist.
  3. SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  4. FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.
  5. EXPRESS lemon zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History:

Adapted from a recipe created by Jason E. Clapham or Clapham Cocktails, Oxford, England. Originally made with Appleton Estate 8 Reserve Rum, so appropriately named after the valley in Jamaica on the Appleton estate.

This is quite nice. First noticed in Mr. Clapham's "That's Amaro", and like many other entries from that book, it does not disappoint. The interplay of the Montenegro and Pamplemousse in particular was quite delightful, supported throughout by the rum backbone.

Should be ½ measure of grapefruit liqueur, rather than grapefruit juice - I used the one from Giffard, the excellent Crème de Pamplemousse Rose.
