2 oz Wild Turkey 101 straight rye
34 oz Monin Ginger Syrup (US)
12 oz Lime juice (freshly squeezed)
Top up with Thomas Henry Soda Water

How to make:

SHAKE all ingredients with ice and fine strain into ice-filled glass. TOP with soda.

History:

The Cablegram first appears in William "Cocktail" Boothby's 1908 The World's Drinks and How to Mix Them, where it's described as being "A Bourbon Whiskey and Ginger Ale Highball with a little sour added..." This forgotten classic was given a new lease of life in 2009 by Eric Alperin at The Varnish in Los Angeles, USA with a combination of ginger syrup and soda replacing ginger ale and a rye whiskey base adding a touch more kick.

The Cablegram is an old drink. Very old. Eric Alperin had little to do with its creation. It first appeared in William Boothby's World Drinks and How To Mix Them. True, bottled ginger ale was originally used, but it's the same drink with the same name.
