Like a number of the comments here, I, too, find this a little sweet with the 2:1 ratio. I used a 45% ABV bourbon, but I don't think a 100-proof rye would be enough: the ratios might just need to be adjusted. Otherwise, it's a lovely drink.

Made this with Monte Amaro, Kentucky corn whiskey (50° proof), orange bitters, black walnut bitters (this last is an amazing chocolate/not chocolate ingredient). Loved it.
So it's sweet - is that a sin?

Braulio, Crown Royale, angostura orange bitters, one drop chocolate bitters. Very smooth and balanced sipper.

Looks pretty sweet as written so I tried “perfecting” it by replacing half of the Montenegro with dry vermouth di Torino. Used Stranahan’s cask strength Rocky Mountain single malt whiskey. Very good, and still plenty sweet.

I made this with (gulp) Nonino instead of Monte and orange bitters instead of orange peel. I skipped the cherry bc of the Nonino’s inherent sweetness. A delicious variant!

Question. Is there a way to switch back and forth on the ingredients between what you recommend/chose vs "my ingredients" without logging off and back on? For example, I have a variety of Bourbons/Whiskeys that I could have used here but was just curious as to what YOU went with. It seems to pick the same "my ingredient" to sub for your chosen ones.
Thanks

The best way to achieve this is to open an incognito window in your browser and then flip between the two windows.

Used a high proof Rye Whiskey to counter a bit more of the Montenegro Amaro's sweetness. It was good. Still a touch sweet, so next time I may do 1.5 oz (45 ml) each of Amaro and Rye.

Kind of sweet- maybe less montenegro?
