Complex and delicious! One of few drinks I’ve had recently that just might challenge the Vieux Carré for nightcap of choice. I wonder though if there’s something more interesting than honey syrup to provide the leavening sweetness - I may borrow the Benedictine from the VC and see how that goes.

Would Averna be a good substitute if one lacks Montenegro?

Nonino is closer to Averna than Montenegro.

I also have nonino. Would that be closer?

I floated (sort of) a dash or two of Ardbeg instead of the mist, and some Luxardo maraschino cherries because I can’t resist the bloody things. Sweet but delicious, as has previously been stated. If I make it again, I might try adding a dash of coffee or cardamom bitters.

It is rather sweet, but geez it’s nice! I’d already drunk half of it when I realised I’d forgot the Laphroaig, so I sprayed a little bit on top of my last few mouthfuls. Turns out this is indeed transformative, because somehow its transformed a very enjoyable, complex and ethereal drink into something that’s so one dimensional I probably won’t even finish it. go figure.

I had no Islay on hand (didn’t even notice that garnish ingredient until I had mixed the rest). As a result, I found this too sweet for my liking, but adding a couple drops of Vena’s Smoke bitters helped.

Wow. This is a huge burst of flavours. An excellent digestive or evening sipper. Each ingredient is identifiable, but they all work together amazingly. I am not a huge fan of sweeter cocktails, but this works. Would definitely have again.

Very intense, but very rewarding. Excellent balance between bitter and sweet, and a couple of Luxardo Maraschinos work wonders by adding a hint of cherry flavour.

Gloriously layered sipper. The mist of Laphroaig is transformative.

Added a dash of aromatic bitters to mine after tasting. Improves it slightly in my opinion.
