Variant:

Godfather (Scotch whisky and amaretto); Godmother (vodka and amaretto); The Boss (bourbon and amaretto)

History:

One of "The God(father)" trilogy of cocktails, the Godchild is predated by the very similar French Connection. According to Mark Torre's 1987 The Bartenders Cherry, the difference between a Godchild and a French Connection is that a Godchild is made with brandy of unstipulated origin while a French Connection specifically calls for cognac brandy in a Snifter glass.

GODCHILD
1 shot Brandy
1 shot Amaretto Di Saronno® / Amaretto
Rocks/Old Fashioned Glass

Mark Torre, 1987

FRENCH CONNECTION
1 shot Courvoisier®
2/3 shot Amaretto Di Saronno® / Amaretto
Snifter Glass

Mark Torre, 1987

Alcohol content:

  • 1.5 standard drinks
  • 28.56% alc./vol. (28.56° proof)
  • 20.7 grams of pure alcohol

Nice evening sipping cocktail. Did find it a tad on the sweet side for my tastes. I would make again, but reduce the amaretto by 1/3.

I would agree. Or up the cognac by a third to have a full glass. ;)
