Vital to make this with a good, real grenadine. The drink works incredibly well, with so much wonderful balanced fruitiness and sweetness, off-set by the botanicals of the gin adding backbone and balance. Not mind-blowing, definitely worthy of the 4 stars, maybe nudging to 4.25?

I made this recipe expecting it to be horrible. I used Tanqueray for the gin and Rose's grenadine. I did a dry shake instead of a reverse dry shake, but I don't think it matters all that much.

The drink was a neon pink and tastes like undersweetened bubblegum. Not atrocious, but not my thing by any stretch.

With home made grenadine (and Gordon's London Dry) this came out very slightly pinkish at best. Although my grenadine is not a vivid as commercial syrup there is only 15/110 ml of red ingredients here so I think there is a mistake with the picture. That said, the drink was lovely: light, creamy, mild gin. The 5 & 5 scores are bang on. Will certainly be having this one again.
