History

Jack is a generic name for all British sailors, derived from Jack Tar in the 18th and 19th centuries. Sailors in those years used high-grade tar in their clothing and hair for waterproofing. The term, "Jack-of-all-trades," described a sailor who could turn his hand to anything, and is widely used today.

Review

Characterful rum leads with gin and whiskey playing supporting roles with hints of citrus.

Great complexity and balance. And more gentle on the alcohol than some other Grogs, losing nothing thereby.

As a big Navy rum drinker, this cocktail is good, but not great. I felt it lacked something, but not sure what. I did feel the rum was a bit muted in the drink. It went very well with a spicy meal.

I got a similar feeling. Added 1/3oz of spiced pineapple rum liqueur. Seemed to lift it a bit
