Variant:

A Cactus Banger is also a tequila-based Harvey Wallbanger

History:

I don't have any notes as to the origin of this version of the Cactus Banger but as one of the older recipes on my database, its origin is pre-late 1990s.

A Cactus Banger is perhaps better known as being a simple Harvey Wallbanger based on tequila rather than vodka and it is this version that appears in books such as Stanley M. Jones' 1977 Jones' Complete Barguide.

Despite my name - I prefer this to the Harvey version!

Given the prominent orange/OJ, this seems like a good addition to the breakfast/brunch category here on DG (especially to accompany the Harvey Wallbanger).

Well, fine drink. Taste the ingredients and they fit, but the sum does not add up to more than its parts. Unfortunately.

Perfect. I little on the sweet side, but not noticeable. Unfortunately, very easy to drink. Plan to make a pitcher of these on a sunny afternoon when you have no plans.

Agree on the sweetness; great balance of sweet, boozy, bitter, "funk" (from the Reposado), and tart. One of the best orange juice dominant drinks I've had so far...
