STIR half of the Scotch with three ice cubes (dry to the touch frozen ice, not wet ice) in a glass. Add sherry, sugar syrup and Angostura and two more ice cubes. STIR some more and add another two ice cubes and the rest of the Scotch. STIR some more, and if you have room, add more ice.
