I did a batch of three but didn't have any lavender syrup so added three drops of lavender extract and it worked perfectly. This drink is devine and very reminiscent of an Aviation.

Can't make a bramble or the exceptionally good Black Cocktail without CrĆØme de mure, why is it not on the list?
They are quite different in style but De Kuyper is a good range. Cherry Heering is their more premium cherry liqueur.
I don't know if I had a dud bottole of Cherry Heering but I found it jammy and tasting more like a thick prune juice. I have always rated the De Kuypers, it's complex and rich and makes the best Blood and Sand
Please tell me if I'm a heathen but this subs Maraschino liqueur delightfully. Made an Italicus Aviation it was delicious, going to try the Last Word this evening, stay tuned.
Forgot to add made this with my own Creme de Mure.
This gave me a Proustian rush to scruffier days drinking Pernod and black in cheep bars then dancing off the sugar rush in the local night club. The same flavor profile but more sophisticated and luscious.
I subbed Cointreau for Mandarine Napoleon and it was marvelous.
The question is is Mandarine Napoleon a triple sec or Curacao or is it a good sub for either. I have read your articles on both spirits but when it comes to subbs I'm still confused?
Too strong for my friend (he may work on a building site but he's a martini wuss) so I added two dashes of orange bitters and miraculously made it palatable for him. And I must admit, it added a delicious dimension to this fav of mine.
OMG this tastes just like grapefruit juice.....most excellent grapefruit juice the one that's composed with mostly alcohol
Is Stone's Original a decent sub for the King's?
Took me sometime to acquire a bottle of this liqueur and I'm completely underwhelmed. Cloying and jammy, the result if you made a port reduction, heavy and syrupy. The first cocktail I tried was the Blood and Sand the Heering just overpowered the drink with a prune jam flavour. Previously I have made this cocktail with De kuyper's Cherry Brandy Liqueur which has a bright cherry flavour drying down to almond and vanilla and is perfect for making the Blood and Sand a more complex drink.
Bourbon whiskey, Cherry brandy, Maraschino liqueur, Orange-red aperitivo, Lemon juice
We all have our guilty pleasures, some of mine are David Lynch's Dune, Tabac and the Appletini. I made a batch the other night and tried an absinth rince on the last one. This lifted the drink to another level of complexity, less liquid Jolly Rancher and more a drink standing on the steps of the exclusive Last Word club and daring itself to knock.
This was a delightful shock and I do agree not louche enough for the novels content and namesake but for me it conjures the era because it almost has an opening not of champagne. Greatly to one's liking, and after three I can confirm I was very louche.
Adding a dash of orange bitter elevates this drink from pleasant to interesting
I just made a batch of this and forgot the syrup. It's quite a beautiful punchy complex sour without it, really loving it.
What a strange take on the original Aviation. A less saour more fragrant version it's more like a fragrance than a drink. If I score some more castor oil and add it to my bottle list on here it'll increase the amount of cocktails by one.
