Ingredients:
1 oz Torabhaig Peated Single Malt Whisky
1 oz Bourbon whiskey
14 oz Maple syrup
1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
4 drop Chocolate bitters
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill an Old-fashioned glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of square of 70% cocoa chocolate.
  3. STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).
  5. Garnish with a square of 70% cacao chocolate pegged to the rim.

Review:

I've doubled the maple syrup in this cocktail from the original as it helps cut through and balance the assertive smokiness of the peated whisky. You may want more than one piece of chocolate, as alternate sips and bits are the best way to enjoy this riff on a classic Old Fashioned.

Created circa 2012 by Abraham Hawkins at Dutch Kills and named after Donald "Don" Lockwood, Gene Kelly's character in the 1952 movie Singing In The Rain.

I was not a big fan of peated whisky, but this drink made me one. Now I enjoy peated scotch also neat.
