Garnish:
Orange zest twist
How to make:
STIR all ingredients with ice and fine strain into chilled glass.
2/3 fl oz | White overproof rum |
2/3 fl oz | Caribbean blended rum aged 6-10 years |
2/3 fl oz | Amaro (e.g. Montenegro) |
1/3 fl oz | Chilled water (omit if wet ice) |
Recipe contains the following allergens:
- Amaro (e.g. Montenegro) – Sulphur Dioxide/Sulphites
Review:
Rum funkiness and amaro bitterness combine in the bittersweet after-dinner sipper. For a less potent version use cachaça in place of the over-proof rum.
History:
Adapted from a recipe created by Jason E. Clapham at the St. Edward's MCR at Oxford, England. Originally made with Wray & Nephew overproof rum, Jason told us this cocktail is eponymously named for the Black River which runs through the Appleton Estate, where Wray & Nephew is distilled.
Alcohol content:
- 1.4 standard drinks
- 28.35% alc./vol. (56.7° proof)
- 19.8 grams of pure alcohol
