Serve in an Old-fashioned glass

Ingredients:
1 oz Del Maguey Vida Clásico Mezcal
1 oz Strucchi Red Bitter (Campari-style liqueur)
1 oz Strucchi Rosso Vermouth
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill an Old-fashioned glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of orange zest twist (&/or skewered Fragata Green Olive).
  3. POUR all ingredients into ice-filled glass.
  4. STIR.
  5. EXPRESS orange zest twist over cocktail and use as garnish (&/or garnish with olive).

I love the spice mezcal brings to a Negroni that is going beyond the mellowness of a regular Negroni and much rougher than a boulevardier. I still wouldn't choose a very smokey mezcal, as the flavor will stand out a lot. I use a tamer mezcal with fruitier notes than for example Del Maguey Vida.

I only have Del Maguey. Any recommendations for a mezcal like you're suggesting?

A go to negroni for me. For mezcal, I use Montelobos Espadin, and for the Italian red bitters, I use Rinomato L'Aperitivo Deciso. Adding some lime or lemon adds a little acidity to the smokiness of the cocktail.

Added a squeeze of lime for acidity and freshness and it took the drink to another level
