Notes of tequila, orangey triple sec, bittersweet liqueur, blood orange and lime juice all sit in perfect kilter in this tasty riff on the classic Margarita
Garnett and Grant are right; it was excellent with an added half-ounce of extra-smoky mezcal, especially after "taming" it by teaming the mezcal with anejo tequila and a little more deep-purple blood orange and lime juice. A more complex, more colorful variation on the margarita.
Unlike almost everyone else... I confess I was a bit underwhelmed. Felt a bit watered down to me... lacked complexity and kick compared to other Margaritas. I did sub Campari for strucci which may be the issue....
Skipped the salt rim and added some saline instead, and switched the sugar syrup for agave. Fantastic, if dangerously easy-drinking, on a hot summer night.
Same substitutions but also mezcal in for the tequila… even better.
An amazingly good Margarita riff. Fantastic blood orange flavor throughout. Not bitter at all and the salt actually balances out this cocktail. Recommend this one.
What can I say - delicious. Just the right hint of Campari (I love a Negroni but I also am a huge fan of it here, where it's just a lingering note).
Also tried it with subbing 25% of the tequila for mezcal and that was great too.
Made with Cointreau Blood Orange. This recipe has become a seasonal favourite and a little annual ritual of buying the blood orange juice to use in it.
I found some late season blood oranges and made this delicious margarita. We greatly enjoyed it. I coated half the rim of the glass with Tajin, which nicely offsets the other flavors in this drink.
An awesome riff. I love the addition of Campari here — it lends a great bittersweet punchiness and melds perfectly with the blood orange.
For my taste, this drink benefits from a tiny bit more simple syrup OR a slow drinking pace so the ice in the glass lends further dilution. I never seem to manage the later, so I go for the former ;)
Helpful hint for my fellow measurement sticklers: 1/6 oz is 1 tsp.
Thanks Paloma. If you are using 1:1 simple syrup you'll need to use one-third more to equal are rich 2:1 sugar syrup. Useful tip on teaspoon -worth my adding that you can see notes on measures and conversions by clicking "measures and measuring" under every recipe.
This has a wonderful colour, and great margarita taste. Had it with Mexican food and it went perfectly. Would strongly urge people to try during the blood orange season.
One of my favourite Margarita recipes - just made one with Cointreau Blood Orange instead of the regular variety. Blood oranges are still in season so I chucked in a couple of fresh chunky quarter wheels to garnish.
This was delicious, in no small part due to the flavourful blood oranges. I made two small changes: jalapeño-infused simple (rich) syrup, and a (kosher) salt & sugar rimmer.
