I kind of love that. The aged tequila, elderflower and Averna all work together with the mezcal and bitters working to just accentuate the other flavours. It's weird but it 100% works.

Wonderful cocktail. Grapefruit forward on the nose with a wonderfully balanced and ever so slightly floral with a very feint smokey follow through. I would likely increase the mezcal just a bit for my own tastes. Even so when made exactly as instructed this is a lovely cocktail indeed.

Absolutely delicious. Agree with earlier commenters' positivity. We used Amaro Lucano and 4 dashes of Fee Bros grapefruit bitters. Very complex; flashes of a Manhattan but with extra smoky depth and florally-enhanced Amaro.

A lovely sipper but I think my Mezcal might have been a bit overpowering (Dangerous Don) - might try something less smoky

Even without the bitters it is beautiful.

This is a really nice balance of flavors. Not overpoweringly smokey, just enough sweetness, and a little floral pop from the elderflower. This has made my shortlist!

Spectacular. Just the right amount of smoke, bitter, and sweet. This cocktail suits my passion for deep, dark drinks with intense flavours.

Superbly balanced quintet. Rich Bittersweet and Boozey surround playful Elderflower and smokey Mezcal. Averna shines.

Would this work with a reposado instead of añejo?

Will produce a different cocktail but reposado would certainly work.
