Review:

Elf (elderflower liqueur), On (orange liqueur), The (tequila), Shelf (sherry) is for naughty elves to share while planning mischievous enactments.

Judicious elves take delicate sips so as not to disturb this cocktail's rich, fruity red base, while naughty elves sip, swirl, and even stir their cocktail to turn it sweet and pink. However, very naughty elves enrich their Elf On The Shelf cocktail with red crème liqueurs such as cassis, framboise or fraise in place of non-alcoholic grenadine. They're so naughty!

History:

Not a product of Santa's workshop, but created in November 2023 by yours truly. (In the process, this elf fell off the shelf!)

Dreaded by parents but loved by their children, what started as a children's picture book in 2005 has become a nightly drama enacted by parents worldwide from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve. The book The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition was written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell and illustrated by Coë Steinwart. Their Christmas-themed story revolves around elves who report to Santa which children are naughty and those who are nice during the lead-up to Christmas. Each night, parents dream up an elf-like act of mischief and then position an elf at the crime scene for their children to discover in the morning. However, children can't touch the elf, or it will lose its magic.

I've made this cocktail 5 or 6 times these Christmas holidays. That should mean something.

Went down very well as a Christmas Day cocktail. We went for a very naughty elf, substituting grenadine for Maraska cherry liqueur and sherry for sake. A sprig of rosemary gave it a very festive look.

Genius, looked and tasted very festive! If you drank it on on a hot summer's day it would totally work too! I did the good girl version...for now!
Thank you.

This is very good, the ingredients work really well together.
I might try the naughtiest version next time with some berry liqueur, cassis could be an excellent addition.

Not just a Chrismas cocktail: the right balance and the recognisability of the ingredients deserves its entry into the next Difford’s paper Guide too.

Excellence. Little to tweak here. Every ingredient apparent. I did use Amontillado, which is perhaps too present up front, but it melds beautifully in the aftertaste. (11 Jan 2024, 7:10a)

Been waiting for the right opportunity to try this one out since it first appeared on the website guide; and today was that perfect moment. Happy to say that the drink didn't disappoint, looking suitably festive to boot. Hopefully this is an auspicious start to a successful Christmas cocktail season :-)

Fabulous Christmas cocktail, subtly dry and a hint of sweetness. Not my usual tipple but can certainly recommend.

Fantastic cocktail! Complex and subtle but with great personality!

Having an elf residing with me, this was a must try cocktail. Needless to say she proved herself a naughty elf by stirring the the grenadine before trying the drink. Served with a stem cherry for greater effect.
