Review:

Back in the 1940s, in his book The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks, David Embury said of this cocktail, "One of a few cocktails using grapefruit juice. Not particularly good but not too bad." Depending on your ingredients: choice of rye whiskey, freshness of grapefruit juice, and particularly use of homemade pomegranate juice grenadine, Embury may have underestimated this cocktail's potential.

Embury got this spot on. It's /fine/, but it's also...well, it's rye and grapefruit and that's it.

I agree with David Embury. Found the rye gets a bit lost and it was much sweeter than I was expecting. Being that we use tree ripened pink grapefruit, our fruit can be a bit sweeter than those picked a little on the less ripe side. Would maybe reduce the grenadine or increase the rye. Still enjoyed the cocktail.
