I think you can really play around with the akvavit here. One with bog myrtle could really work and dill would at least be interesting. There's a lot of different herbs that can be used in akvavit so don't be afraid to try different variations!

Found this years ago on J. Morgenthaler’s site. I was intrigued and got a bottle of Linie. Things passed and I forgot about it until I saw it here. Sorry so much time passed! I find it full of depth and flavor. Perhaps a touch sweet. My son in law’s family are Norwegian. Can’t wait to mix a few up the next time we get together.

An excellent cocktail that does a great job showcasing the flavors of the aquavit (caraway, anise) and the complex notes of the Yellow Chartreuse. The applejack doesn't play a leading role in the flavor, but does help keep the cocktail light and a bit fruity - preventing overwhelming aquavit flavors. And the sweet vermouth is surprisingly demure - I'm sure it helps with the sweetness and color, and the overall fruitiness, but flavor notes are far behind the lead of the aquavit and chartreuse.

I'm having a hard time with this one. It's definitely interesting, but I'm not quite sure how enjoyable it is. I find the aquavit finish a bit too pronounced, without much trace of the apple brandy. I will say that the yellow Chartreuse comes through in the front, and is a welcome addition. I might try playing with the ratio of aquavit to brandy, and see if I can adjust them to my taste.

Really liked this. Unfortunately, only had .5 of aquavit (trip from years ago to Norway), so upped the applejack. Would like to try again once I get some more aquavit… now I have a reason.

Glad you added this one, Simon! Another fab recipe from Jeffrey Morganthaler, and a great use for that bottle of Aquavit gathering dust in the back of my liquor cabinet. I would like to nominate the Norwegian Wood for your "top 20" fall cocktail list!
