Closest Alpine liqueur to hand was suze. Pleasant but not outstanding, and rather too sweet to count as a Martini for my palate. Other genepi liqueurs may give different conclusions- I shall continue the search.

We don't drink many Martinis but we enjoyed this one. And it's good to see a recipe incorporating Genepi...there are so few here (13 only). There seems to be a 'thing' that Genepi is only worth considering as a poor man's Chartreuse. This is seriously wrong in our view. A bit like recommending Braulio as a substitute for Nonino Quintessentia.

When I see Bigallet Genepi Grand Tetras in the recipe, I move on. This is like a theoretical recipe. I’ll never be ever to find ingredients like that, expect at Difford’s headquarters. I don’t live in London, like most readers. Next…

Other brands of génépi liqueur are widely available internationally and are now often used in place of Chartreuse.
