History

This cocktail emerged in London in 2016, originally with equal parts Sacred Gin, Sacred Sweet Vermouth and Jägermeister (no Italian red bitter) aged for one week in medium toasted oak barrel.

Review

A lightly spicy Negroni perfectly suited to the after-dinner "digestive" moment. If it doesn't aid your digestion it will aid your sleep.

Tried it with Jägermeister Orange which creates a light and more summery drink. In the tradition of Gaz Regan, a full 30ml of gin helps. Is it still a negroni…who knows?

Enjoyable Negroni riff. The herbal notes of the Jager pair well with the Plymouth gin. I was out of Cocchi Vermouth di Torino and used Grassotti Vermouth di Torino Rosso which is more fruity and not nearly as rich as the Cocchi. Finding this vermouth to be a bit flat for this cocktail I added a dash of Aztec Chocolate bitters which rounded out the flavors very well. Will definitely try this again once I have a new bottle of the Cocchi.

Gin, jager and bitter - you taste all individually and then together - very nice for dedicated fans of Negronis and bitter-leaning cocktails.

My first Negroni. Was worried if it would annihilate my sopping wet palate, but it was pretty good actually. A melange of botanical complexity was rounded off by a bitter hum. Was a great digestif.

Interesting drink. Probably won't be replacing my standard negroni, but it's worth trying.

Consider giving a slightly longer-than-average stir as the Jäger & vermouth should already be chilled, so it needs a bit more time to get the dilution it wants. The image shows a wheel garnish, but I am more partial to the zest recommended in the recipe.

Wonderful negroni. Jägermeister adds an interesting blend of herbal flavours which combine with the gin's herbals to create a burst of tastes. Did start out a bit sweet, but became softer as the cocktail breathed and some of the ice melted.

Surprised how well this came together. Used Antica Torino for the vermouth. The Jager fits in splendidly. Putting this in the rotation. (21 Feb 2022, 1:04p)

Use Amaro instead of Campari and you'll have a wonderfully balanced and moreish drink that could even convert the most ardent negroni hater.
