High Ryeser

Had again tonight given it was cocktail of the day, and this time I did have enough Strucchi Vermouth to make the drink. Alas, this time no 100 proof rye and unlikely to be able to source anytime soon in Canada so I upped the rye. Curious as to what others would do. 1:1 as per recipe or increase the volume of rye? I elected to go to 5o ml rye but not sure balance correct; not quite a traditional Manhattan and clearly not a High Ryser. Maybe just a Ryser? Any thoughts on how to make with lower proof ryes? I'm guessing this isn't unique to me.

I made this exactly as followed using Knob Creek Rye, Carpano Sweet Vermouth & Scrappy Aromatic Bitters and added 5ml of Luxardo Maraschino Syrup, to bring in some sweetness without wanting to take away from the from the rye whisky and sweet vermouth, which overall it’s a pretty good drink that’s worth making again

Basically a Manhattan. Bit surprised by the requirement of the new name, as this is the Manhattan, as classic as they come, even right down to proportions normally being equal parts. Delicious either way. I always surprise myself when it comes to Manhattans, as I find Bourbon Manhattans to be unbearably spirituous and earthy, whereas the more complex and less sweet rye Manhattans hit the spot!

Made this cocktail of the day with Rittenhouse rye whiskey and Martini red vermouth (and the Angosturabitters).
The combination does what it promises.

I love a good Manhattan and always have Rye whiskey on hand, so what the heck, let's try this combo, said I! And I'm glad I did, as this was a delight!

I tend to use middle-shelf or even lower end Rye whiskey in my cocktails as I like my high-end stuff too much to drink as anything other than neat, but even with the lower grade Tincup I used, this was a treat. The vermouth dominated, but the Rye kept a pleasant, dry finish.

I did read the comments beforehand and added ice to mine in a rocks glass and it mellowed nicely. Will make this again. And likely again.

A simple cocktail, yet deceptively full of flavour and interest. Will definitely make again.

I have the Redemption 95% straight rye that's only 92 proof, so I dropped it to a 2:1 ratio of rye to Martini Rosso. used Peychauds for bitters over Angostura. An absolute delightful drink.

Only had bulleit 95 rye, so bumped it up to 50ml, and went scant on a 50/50 mix of carpano and punt e mes. Pretty good I reckon.
