How to make

Glass

Prepare

  1. Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. Prepare garnish of lemon zest twist.

Method

  1. STIR first 2 ingredients with ice.
  2. STRAIN into chilled glass.
  3. TOP with sparkling wine.

Garnish

  1. EXPRESS lemon zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

A Prohibition-era cocktail introduced to us by the chaps at London's Sipsmith Distillery.

Review

Usually, we'd follow convention and honour the Martini name with a V-shaped glass. However, due to the splash of champagne, a coupe seems more in keeping for this dangerous champagne-charged riff on a Fifty-Fifty Dry Martini.

Obviously will depend on the quality of gin and vermouth - but the champagne definitely lifts it and and adds some biscuity complexity. Well worth trying if you’re a martini lover
