Ingredients:
1 23 oz Canadian blended whisky
13 oz Pink grapefruit juice (freshly squeezed)
14 oz Maple syrup
1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill an Old-fashioned glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of grapefruit zest twist.
  3. STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).
  5. EXPRESS grapefruit zest twist over cocktail and use as garnish.

Does the choice of whisky coupled with maple syrup suggest Randy, the drinker this cocktail was created for, was/is Canadian? Grapefruit freshens while maple syrup adds deep flavoursome richness.

History:

Adapted from a cocktail on the menu of the Dragonfly Cocktail Bar in Edinburgh, Scotland circa 2015-18. Brought to my attention thanks to a comment by a fellow Discerning Drinker, Charl Engela on our Maple Old Fashioned page.

Found this looking for a cocktail we could have after dinner that used grapefruit juice. Wow. Did dial back the maple syrup by 1/3, but the resulting cocktail was Outstanding. Everything plays together well and the hints of spice and maple add deeper layers of flavour. Will definitely have a gain. Drinks very easily.
