Adapted from a recipe created in 2008 by Michael McIlroy at Milk & Honey in Manhattan, New York City. Apparently, Michael was inspired by the Triumph of Pompeii cocktail, in turn inspired by Rome is Burning.

Review

Herbal bittersweetness with zesty freshness – a long aperitivo with a splash of effervescence.

Very bright, very herbal. Definitely an aperitif to wake you up and also a fantastic low ABV option.

Very nice flavours - I made 2:1 sugar syrup and it felt too sweet in this quantity. Will try with simple syrup.

This is really nice. It's the first one I've had in a lon gtime where I actually enjoyed the vermouth so that's nice.

Best Aperitivo I had yet. Lovely drink that demonstrates that complexity and balance don't need a lot of alcohol.
I need to try the Rome Royal Riff with Champagne instead of Soda. Guess it'll be a blast.
