Ingredients:
1 oz Hayman's London Dry Gin
1 oz Strucchi Red Bitter (Campari-style liqueur)
12 oz Dubonnet/French rouge aromatised wine
12 oz Cockburn's Tawny Eyes Port
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill an Old-fashioned glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of orange slice wheel (dehydrated blood orange).
  3. STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).
  5. Garnish with dehydrated orange wheel.

History:

Adapted from a recipe discovered in February 2022 at the Library Bar at London's Landsborough Hotel under the "Robust Cocktails" section of their menu, described as a "Apothecary mix of Martini Bitters, French Aperitif Dubonnet, Graham's Port 10 years old & uplifted with Bombay Sapphire gin."

Had been wondering how port snd gin could go together and here it is. Lacking Dubonnet I ended up with port, punt e mes and, following Andy’s idea, 4 drops Bob’s chocolate bitters. Pleasantly Porty. Dried blood orange slice as garnish. Will return once Dubonnet is again in house.

Robust is right! Almost only a Negroni by name, more like a bittersweet digestive. By the way, is Dubonnet a poor man's port?

Excellent aperitivo. Used St. George's Dry Rye Gin. Created a very flavourful cocktail. Easy to sip and excellent with a nice sharp cheddar cheese.
