How to make

Glass

Prepare

Select and pre-chill a COLLINS GLASS.

Prepare garnish of pineapple wedge.

Method

SHAKE all ingredients with ice.

STRAIN into glass filled with crushed ice.

Garnish

Garnish with pineapple wedge on rim.

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to infer that the original name of the cocktail, Drunk in the August Sun, is a reference to the song "Gold Soundz" off Pavement's 1990 album Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (the third verse opens with the line "So drunk in the August sun").

I may try making a batched version of this, clarified through coconut milk and washed with toasted sesame oil.

GREAT COCKTAIL; EASY TO MAKE IN VOLUME; FINO AND COCO LOPEZ REALLY SHINE AS WRAY & NEPHEW IS JUST SO ACCEPTING OF SURROUNDING FLAVORS/ATTRIBUTES; EASY TO MANIPULATE WITH 10ML MORE OR LESS OVERPROOFED RUM FOR LADIES THAT WANT MORE SWEETNESS AND GENTLEMEN THAT WANT MORE BOOZE KICK.

darn, my coconut cream went bad, used banana liquor instead for that 10 ml.My sherry was Pedro Ximenez (PX) which is crazy sweet, had to add 20ml lime. will bypass rating until i re-make this "proper". >:D

I think the full name of the original was "Drunk in the August Sun." The original was a little too sweet, this version is better.

I made a minor tweak, adding about 3/8 oz lime juice. Wray & Nephew for the rum, Harvey's Bristol Cream for the sherry.
Very good cocktail -- a flavor profile that's unique, full, complex but fun.

Not sure if you made it with that or not, but Bristol cream is significantly sweeter than most fino sherry. That may be the difference you note in the original being too sweet.
