To be honest when I first try it I hadn't nonino available and used Averna. I loved it. Then I try it with nonino and it was so - so . For me it totally needs to tone down the lemon by at least 5ml if one use Nonino.
I also found I had to tone down the lemon juice.
Nice to way to use up some Taylor’s 20yo and fino sherry I had on hand.
I used Hampden Estate 8yo, Taylor’s 20yo and Mr. Black, and this turned out very well.
Considering the origin of the recipe, I may try again with Havana Club 7.

Taste is not bad. But I also had trouble floating the cream (even after aerating).
Agreed, vanilla vodka works well.
I generally I am not inclined towards sweeter cocktails, but this one strikes a good balance.
Same as Miguel, I thought this one was not bad at all. I used Maker’s for the bourbon.
Abbotts bitters really makes this drink. Luckily I had some on hand.
Tried making this with Plantation O.F.T.D., which was the closest I had to a Jamaican overproof rum. It did not disappoint!
I also halved the sugar syrup and enjoyed this one very much.
This was great with my Cor Cor Agricole rum from Minamidaito, Okinawa.
Enjoyed this one. I’m not big on sweet drinks, but I felt it was sour enough as written with the fresh lime juice. Tried halving the sugar syrup, but honestly didn’t notice a significant difference.
Grand Marnier works well, I think, in place of orange curaçao as suggested.

Enjoyed this one. Well balanced, and the ginger liqueur blends surprisingly well with Japanese whisky.
It seems I am in the minority on this one, but to me the Maraschino liqueur overwhelmed everything else. Tried cutting the Maraschino to 1/3, but still not really to my liking.
Did not disappoint. As suggested in the comments I went with Angostura orange bitters. Might try grapefruit bitters next time.
