History

Adapted from a recipe created in 2004 by Jon Santer at Bruno's in San Francisco, USA and named after the Beatles' Revolver album after an argument as to the group's best track with a musician at the bar. The name is also appropriate, as this cocktail was originally made with Bulleit Bourbon.

The Revolver became popular after Jon turned his attention across town to Bourbon & Branch.

Review

Depending on your coffee liqueur, this can be a tad on the dry side, so I've added a splash of sugar. Hence, according to your own tastes, you may want to omit/or increase the sugar, and if adding sugar, then also consider using muscovado or demerara sugar rather than white sugar syrup.

Excellent cocktail. I used Maker's Mark bourbon and Mr. Black coffee liqueur. A little Cointreau really lifts it up.

This was great.
Made it with Redwood Empire (California) Bourbon 101 Whiskey and Flor de Cana coffee liqueur (made with a rum base). Did not need any sweetener.
Perfect for a cold winter evening, watching The Nutcracker ballet and having Cranberry Pistachio biscotti.

Tried with Mr. Black and felt that the orange bitters clashed with, rather than complimented the cocktail. I may try again with chocolate bitters or I may just write this one off

Luxardo espresso is a bit dry to go without the sugar. I won’t rate it until I try again with the sugar.

I did not expect this to be this good. Made it with Galliano coffee liqueur and a cheap (but well made) supermarket whiskey and it was amazingly balanced.
Great Espresso Martini alternative for those who don't own an espresso machine.
Will be trying with different whiskeys as the comments here suggest.

I made mine with St George Nola (and Wild Turkey 101) and it was so good, nothing overly complex but felt like a good showcase for the liqueur. Will be trying it with Bardstown Wheated next

 maybe a different coffee liqueur? My DW & I both tasted only bourbon. Mine had McAfee's Benchmark 'Old No.8' , Fee Brothers West Indian Orange Bitters, and Kahlua.

Can I aks what the purpose of the flamed organge zest twist is? Is it for show or does it add something to the cocktail's flavor? I'm as much about the presentation as I am about the flavor. Many thanks.

Toasting citrus zest does impact flavour while also adding theatre.

Great color for an Autumnal Equinox afternoon cocktail. Well balanced with te Kahlua. Used Buffalo Trace this first time, but will try with a variety of others. Keeper.

My favorite cocktail for May! My version: 2 Wild Turkey 101, .5 Kahlua, 2 dashes orange bitters. Easy and tasty.
