History

Created by Christos Chouseas at 42 Bar in Athens, Greece – a bar where The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the work of Douglas Adams influences many of the drink names.

In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book, the number 42 is the "answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything", while 'Marvin' is a paranoid, depressive android.

I couldn't believe it but I was able to get a Mastiha bottle for this cocktai. When I end this project of preparing all Last Words in the Worlds I will be in chapter 11. Ok this is totally different to everything I taste, in certain reccounts it says Mastiha must taste like mint: Nop. Its herbal but like grass, in a very far far away way like Âżzubrowka? And keeps everything in grass, that is: rolling in the grass with a last word. It was... ok. Not amazing, not earth shaking: ok. But now I have to use this bottle in other cocktails :(

Oh that's easy. Shake up a Greek Sidecar or El Mediterraneo.

Really good Last Word variation. I used Plymouth gin and Luxardo Del Santo. The mastiha is definitely present, and contributes to the overall result without overwhelming.

Really an excellent cocktail - but the mastiha does not quite fit the hole left by the maraschino. The mastiha has a delicious and distinctive flavor profile, and it works well here - but not as well as the maraschino IMO. And with Green Chartreuse so expensive, I will prefer the original Last Word over this variant. But, still and excellent cocktail, and worth a taste.

Substituted 20ml each Dolin Genepy & Liquore Strega for the Green Chartreuse I don't have. Delicious! Maybe the monks could "hire" some monk wanna-be interns to increase output and meet demand... more revenue for the order, plenty of time to pray (or whatever) and potentially,... new recruits. Fulfill God's Will! Chartreuse for everyone! (No disrespect intended.)

Having discovered Mastiha on a recent Greek holiday I was very happy to find a Last Word variant using it. It works well for me with the Chartreuse and Mastiha well balanced. I initially found it a bit sharp and added 7.5ml sugar. Strangely my wife, who cannot stand Chartreuse and wouldn't normally give a Last Word the time of day, quite enjoyed this.

I don't really agree with Florian. This drink is nicely balanced. Yes, you can't mistake the Mastic, but the flavours are well-integrated.

To love this Last Word variation one has to like mastiha, it is very prominent.

Very tasty & mastiha even more prominent than the chartreuse. I found adding 10ml sugar syrup was preferable for me
