Love a classic Americano but tonight I created a Blood Orange version. Proportions same as above but using Campari, Antica Formula vermouth and Fever Tree Blood Orange Soda. Garnished with two slices of blood orange, one in the base of glass and one on top. Tastes like summer (even in March).
First tried an americano about 40 years ago after reading casino royale and was lucky enough to be shown how it should be made in camparino last year, fabulous drink
I'm realizing that if I force myself to drink more Campari drinks, I start to like more Campari drinks. Not sure if it's some kind of Stockholm Syndrome, but this drink is tasty.
This drink comprises of a quick yet satisfying evolution. The vermouth has an extremely appealing sweetness, but then the Campari puckers your tongue, making you go for more. Just delightful. The epitome of an aperitif, IMHO.
replace the soda water with Mediteranean Tonic water, The Martini with Antica formula or even better "Muz" by Ecologics Bonastre. In fact I make a Negroni and then top it up with the Tonic. Fantastic taste of the Med. Takes me straight to long hot late afternoons among the scrub and sage. Wow.
