Established in 2017, Sourest Day is a celebration of all things sour – not so much sour-faced people, but rather tangy, zesty treats in the form of candy, desserts, and particularly sour cocktails.
The Amaretto Sour leads the sour popularity stakes, but today, depending on your spirits preference, you may want to celebrate with a:
Apple Brandy Sour
Brandy Sour
Cachaça Sour
Daiquiri Sour
Gin Sour
Mezcal Sour
New York Sour
Pisco Sour
Rum Sour
Scotch Sour
Tennessee Sour
Tequila Sour
Vodka Sour
Whiskey Sour
Today's National One-Hit Wonder Day was established in 1990 by the American music journalist Steven Rosen.
Okay, so we're only talking 15 minutes of fame but there have been some great one-hit wonders over the years – think Always Something There to Remind Me by the Naked Eyes, Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky or Cheryl Lynn's amazing disco anthem Got to be Real.
There's something about those songs that catches the zeitgeist of a moment and brings waves of nostalgia for an era when we hear them again, so why not mix a Lone Ranger, pull out the one-hit wonders you've got tucked away in your collection and celebrate One-Hit Wonder Day in style?
