History:

This recipe is from Ryan Chetiyawardana in 2009, who shared his recipe at The Cabinet Room, London during the UK finals of that year's World Class bartending competition.

The Silk Stocking originated in the late 1970s - early 1980s, and the earliest cocktail book I've seen it referenced is as a blended cocktail in Helen Spence's 1982 book Cocktails For Two.

SILK STOCKINGS
This drink is as smooth as it sounds, and made in a blender. Into the blender cup pour three parts tequila, two parts white crème de cacao, three parts fresh cream and a dash of grenadine. Whizz up with a scoop of crushed ice and pour the mixture into a glass. Dust with a cinnamon and garnish with a cherry.

Just a heads up - if you use commercial grenadine, this is going to look like pepto bismol! Not the best use of any of these ingredients IMO. (Silk Stocking)

Remade it with Cascahuin Blanco Tequila (wonderful additive free Tequila). Sadly, not as much of an upgrade as I hoped. I still stand with my previous comment that even a Mixto will work, as long as all the other ingredients are of reasonable quality.

This was outstanding. Strong blanco tequila flavour and great for an after dinner drink. Perfect for ending the celebration of Mexico's Independence. In Mexico, tequila cocktails must have a strong flavour of tequila. Perfecto.

Agreed. I've added nutmeg as the prefered garnish. Thanks, John.

The only difference I might make is to dust the cocktail with freshly grated nutmeg rather than the cinnamon.

It's okay, though I appreciate the cream subduing the "bite" of the tequila.

Did you use blanco tequila or Mezcal? blanco tequila should not be smoky. Mezcal is smoky.

I agree. My wife said it looked too much like Pepto Bismol! Life is too short to not drink good drinks.

Very strong tequila flavour but with sumptuous creamy mouthfeel. I would perhaps reduce the tequila a bit and find something to up the fruitiness, perhaps another fruit based liqueur perhaps? But that would be a different cocktail by then of coarse.

I went with 1.5 oz tequila and really enjoyed the result. I'm curious what else you were thinking of adding?

Also I really enjoyed the cinnamon on top.
