I’ve been waiting for a long time to make this cocktail but had to wait until I could justify having all the separate ingredients in the house at the same time. Finally got a chance to make one last night and I could instantly taste why this one gets so much hype as a modern classic. As the kids would say this one is a banger! Made mine with Monkey Shoulder and Ardbeg Wee Beastie for the peat. A sublime sipper.

A delightful little drink which showcases the two whiskeys in a really different light to a traditional whiskey cocktail. The splash of soda water adds just a slight sizzle to each sip. Very good.

Used the final half ounce of my Green Chartreuse bottle in this delightful late night sipper. A really interesting and herbaceous cocktail worth savouring. Every ingredient is very well balanced. Will be returning to this one when I next pick up a new bottle of Chartreuse.

Mezcal Margarita

Last week my wife and I visited a New Mexican restaurant in our little town and I ordered one of their cocktails and “upgraded” the regular tequila to Mezcal. My first taste of Mezcal and I was hooked - similar to my first dalliance with peated scotch! My first mission this weekend was to find a bottle of Mezcal and the second mission was to head to Diffords to give me some pointers in the direction of some good recipes. And this Mezcal Margarita was no disappointment! A very well balanced drink with nuances of all the separate ingredients coming through on every sip. I made mine with Perro D San Juan and this might become my go-to margarita.

Simply delightful. Sipping on this Christmas Eve on a hot summer evening in Australia and it was totally worth the labours of crushing ice, juicing a lemon, counting out mint leaves etc…..

This is a good riff on the Godfather - I replaced the vanilla bitters with Chocolate bitters out of necessity and was quite happy with the resulting late night sipper.

What a gorgeous spring / summer drink this is!
Very well balanced and just a delight. Very more-ish.
I used a homemade grenadine so like Diego's review below my drink colour was more a sophisticated pink than the bright red in the picture.

Milanese G&T

As someone who loves a good Americano this Milanese G&T gives me something both familiar yet refreshingly different - in this case swapping out the sweet vermouth for gin and the soda water for tonic. Either way you’re two thirds of the way to a Negroni and that’s never a bad thing…..

I only recently made a gin and tonic as I’ve spent my life avoiding tonic water like the plague. So trying a G & T for the first time was a confusing experience. I loathe tonic water on its own but this drink is actually good! Nice to sip on while cooking dinner.

Smoky Cokey

This drink came up in a podcast I was listening to a few weeks ago with an unexpectedly high recommendation from a high brow bartender and tonight it was time to give it a go. I used Laphroaig 10 and it is definitely a smoky upgrade on what would could otherwise be merely a “scotch and coke”.

Well what to do when you’re in the mood for a margarita and your backyard has a tree full of lemons and you get to wondering if you can make a tequila drink without limes? Diffords to the rescue with the Californian Margarita!
And this was an actually surprisingly good. This is going to go into my regular rotation - just to make sure my lemons don’t go to waste…….
A nice refreshing twist on a classic.

This reminds me a bit of the famous Golden Cadillac which is another creamy cocktail featuring white chocolate liqueur. Both drinks are a decadent adult treat but this one is quite interesting with the tequila dancing with the crème de cacao really well.

Approached this one with a touch of trepidation as the ingredients suggested this could head vaguely into Martini territory and I’m just not a Martini guy. However the Benedictine and absinthe help steer this back into my wheelhouse. Served with the requisite Hi de hi de ho, although I did use the Family Guy / Peter Griffin version…..
