A riff on the classic Last Word cocktail substituting Irish whiskey for gin. Named after Frank Fogarty, a vaudeville performer known as The Dublin Minstrel...
As the man himself has pointed out there aren't too many Welsh themed cocktails. So swap the whisky for Penderyn and switch to yellow chartreuse and you'll have yourself a 'St David's harpist ' just in time for St David's day - phew! Both versions pretty tasty
The Last Word is one of my favorite cocktails, but I find this to be superior. I stick to the specs and feel it benefits from a good long shake. I have tried it with more expensive Irish whiskeys but find regular Jameson works quite well. Excellent work Mr. Difford.
Agreed, this was one of my earlier Last Word experiments, and it really works. Jameson black barrel is the Irish whiskey that I most often have in house, and it works great here.
I think you're going to have to use a pretty flavorful whisky if you want to notice it. Probably prefer a Last Word over this but it's definitely not bad.
It's pretty good as is, but for me it's a bit too overpowered with Chartreuse and Maraschino.
I like this better:
1.5 oz Irish whiskey
0.5 oz Green Chartreuse
0.5 oz Maraschino Liquor
0.5 oz Lime juice.
