History:
Said to have been created in the 1870s by a bartender at the legendary Manhattan Club, which once stood at the north corner of 34th Street and 5th Avenue, New York City.
This recipe adapted from Harry Craddock's 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book:
"Star Cocktail (No.2)
½ Italian Vermouth.
½ Applejack or Calvados.
Shake well and strain into cocktail glass.
