How to make

Prepare

Select and pre-chill an OLD-FASHIONED GLASS.

Prepare garnish of caramelised peacan.

Method

STIR all ingredients with ice.

STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).

Garnish with caramelised peacan.

I bought some Walnut bitters at a Farmers Market and searched for a drink for them. This one is perfect. I've made it twice with two different amaros. Neither was Lucano, but both worked well.

Had everything but black walnut bitters so used toasted pecan bitters instead; worked fine. We even had a tin of pralines (caramelized pecans---American spelling). The only thing this drink has in common with an Old Fashioned is the bourbon, but it's a good and unusual combination of flavors right down to the garnish.

Honestly thought it would be too sweet but it's much drier than an old fashioned. Really like it though. The bourbon and chocolate liqueur gives some sweet backbone but the Lucano and bitters are really front and center and dries it all up. Fun cocktail, will definitely try again.

Thick syrupy sweet goodness, with a backbone of delicious bittnerness, would recommend to a friend, but not a lover.

Phenomenal. Used Woodford Reserve Double Oak. I treated mine as a Manhattan riff, so served mine up. Rich, velvety texture and lovely after dinner sipper.

I agree that this needs another ounce of bourbon. It then becomes a good cocktail to celebrate the founding of Rome on April 21.

I found this far too sweet as written. The version on Kindred has twice the ratio of Bourbon to Amaro Lucano and Creme de Cacao. Those ratios create a much dryer drink with more space to appreciate the carmel and chocolate flavors.

I agree! I’m a big fan of slightly sweet cocktails. Ala sweet Manhattan style. However, I found this a bit too sweet for my taste. Between the amaro and white crème de cacao and only an ounce of bourbon and walnut bitters to cut it. I added another ounce of bourbon as well. I do like it. But I still mark it as a sweeter drink. I think it’s a 6 now. A 5 as written.
