Review:

This tequila riff on the usually gin-based Gimlet harnesses the earthiness of the tequila to add an extra dimension which more than compensates for the lack of gin's botanical complexity. As for the name, I originally used mezcal de pechuga as the second ingredient. ('Giblets' is a culinary term for the edible offal of a fowl (heart etc) and pechuga mezcals are distilled with a chicken or turkey breast in the still. 'Pechuga' is Spanish for poultry breast.)

Very nice. I often pull back the amount of syrup (or, if one ingredient lends sweetness, skip it entirely) as my tastes seem to run a bit dryer than Simon's (though I do appreciate the balancing effect of the sweetener more than I used to, thanks in large part to this site), but I'm glad I kept it in for this drink. Necessary. Delicious.

This is nice! Mezcal is balanced. Just enough sweetness and citrus coming through. Like Giulio mentioned, this is an interesting alternative to a margarita; maybe if you don't have triple sec on hand? Nice option, though!

Garnish says lime wedge, but photo shows lime twist.

Thanks, Peter. I've corrected to call for a twist rather than awedge.

This is nice, but you must like the smoky taste of mezcal. Not a fan of smoky, it was OK. However, I did find the cocktail very balanced and flavourful. Just be prepared for the smoky which, due to my autism, is not a pleasant flavour, but most who like mezcal will like this.

I have to still try this exact recipe, but I recently made a version of this (albeit with only lime juice and minus the mezcal) and I think I prefer it to the Margarita. I will have to do a side-by-side to confirm this suspicion though.
