Prepare

Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.

Prepare garnish of skewered Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

Method

STIR all ingredients with ice.

FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Seeing the name made me anticipate a cherry bomb. Delighted that it turned out to have what I feel was the ideal level of cherry. I used Wild Turkey 101, Cocchi Storico, Dad's Hat Rye, and Luxardo Sangue Morlacco. Always pleased to be able to use the pricey yet primo Bob's vanilla... first sip, I was gonna dump this, but now I'm considering another... Well done sir.

My first reaction was ‘Meh’, good but nothing really stood out. As I let it sit a bit though, it really opened up. Once the initial chill is gone, it’s much more interesting.

Finally! A good cherry-centered cocktail that doesn't taste like medicine! I tried it a second time with 1/4 oz of amaretto, and I highly recommend it.

If you want a Manhattan, make a Manhattan. If you want a very nice Manhattan riff that is still not that complicated, however, you should make this. It's a bit sweet, nutty from the Maraschino, and with just a hint of cherry sweetness underneath. Delightful.

If you want a Manhattan make a Manhattan…it’s easy.
This starts to complicate things with numerous elements so taking it out of a relaxed late night drink. It’s easy to drink (cherry and vanilla are perfect partners) but I cannot see myself making this instead of a Manhattan.

Copied JH and JF - no vanilla bitters so subbed (fancy) vanilla extract and orange bitters. Loved the play of fruity, sweet with the nuttiness of the Luxardo coming through, and the unctuous cherry Heering. I used all rye and still very discernible with the sweetness. Brilliant!

Almost a year later… fun to garnish vintage -style and sink a cherry to the bottom of the glass and let it soak up the goodness for a while… with a backup firmly moored on dry land in case a rescue operation is required 😉

This was outstanding. Did not have the vanilla bitters so used half vanilla extract and half orange bitters. Turned out wonderful. Will definitely have again. While it is a bit sweet the Bourbon and Rye is still forward in flavour.

Adding like 10ml of a nice peated Islay Whiskey (I used Ardbeg Ten) instead of 10ml Bourbon adds extra complexity. Simply amazing drink!

Loved this idea - swapped 10ml of the American rye whiskey for talisker, 5 ml Cherry jar liquid in place of Luxardo, one dash orange bitters, 12 drops Bob’s Abbotts bitters. Might do half-half peaty scotch and rye next time!

Made as directed except for bitters. Substituted a few drop of quality vanilla extract. Highly recommended.

I'm a big fan of any Manhattan variation, but this one is far better than most! It's sweet, right, but only at first taste, then goes dryer and boozier as progresses thru mouth. Elegant yet indulgent. Did it with Maker's-Carpano AF-Bulleit-Luxardo-Heering-Bob's.
