The richer, lighter, and younger sibling of Chartreuse Verte, Chartreuse Jaune (Yellow Chartreuse) was developed in the 1840s and is perhaps an even more versatile cocktail ingredient than its Green brother, evidenced by the diversity of these 20 made with Yellow Chartreuse.
Alaska (Straub's 1914 recipe)
With: Old Tom gin, Yellow Chartreuse, and orange bitters.
We say: Based on an Old Tom gin with amplified botanicals and minimal sugar (some are way too sweet) produces a spiritous and, if you hit the right dilution, tasty and complex cocktail.
Angel's Draft
With: Rum, Yellow Chartreuse, lime juice, agave syrup, grapefruit bitters, mint, and egg white.
We say: A refreshing, minty, light cocktail with herbal complexity.
Brasil
With: Cachaça, Yellow Chartreuse, lemon juice and sugar syrup.
We say: Citrus enlivens this lightly herbal cachaça-based cocktail.
Ce Soir (This Evening)
With: Cognac, Cynar, Yellow Chartreuse, orange bitters, and aromatic bitters.
We say: Brandy-based, bittersweet and herbal. A good after-dinner digestif.
Colleen Bawn
With: Egg (white & yolk), rye whiskey, Yellow Chartreuse, Bénédictine D.O.M,, and sugar syrup.
We say: A hearty drink that's best suited to a winter's night- perhaps a night with little food as it's something of a meal in itself.
Corpse Reviver No.2 (Contemporary Recipe)
With: Dry gin, Yellow Chartreuse, Lillet blanc, lemon juice, and absinthe.
We say: Yellow Chartreuse replaces triple sec in this riff on the classic Corpse Reviver Cocktail No.2.
Death Flip
With: Blanco tequila, Jägermeister, Yellow Chartreuse, sugar syrup, egg (white & yolk), and freshly grated nutmeg.
We say: With a whole egg, a shot of tequila, Jägermeister and Chartreuse, this has challenging herbal and bitter complexity but with endearing sweet creaminess.
Diamondback
With: Rye whiskey, calvados, and Yellow Chartreuse.
We say: This potent cocktail marries apple spirit with rye whiskey and rich herbal Chartreuse. An after- dinner/ nightcap tipple.
Dragon Punch
With: Mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, lime juice, orgeat syrup, and hot pepper sauce
We say: An almond, mezcal and Chartreuse margarita with a touch of fire breathing hot pepper sauce.
Edison's Medicine Cocktail
With: Basil leaves, cachaça, Yellow Chartreuse, lime juice, and agave syrup.
We say: Cachaça leads with basil and Chartreuse herbal notes, zesty lime and agave richness.
Episcopal
With: Green Chartreuse and Yellow Chartreuse liqueurs.
We say: My favourite way to enjoy Chartreuse. Adjust the proportions of each liqueur to suit your mood and personal taste.
Glee Club Cocktail
With: Sherry, Yellow Chartreuse, Framboise eau-de-vie, absinthe and bitters.
We say: Raspberry notes hit your palate first, followed by Chartreuse influenced sherry. Fruity yet spirit- forward and complex.
Gnome
With: Dry gin, Yellow Chartreuse, and fino sherry.
We say: An after-dinner tipple with gin botanicals and rich herbal flavours dried by fino sherry.
Greenpoint
With: Rye whiskey, Yellow Chartreuse, sweet vermouth, aromatic bitters, and orange bitters.
We say: Stirred and boozy with rye whiskey punch and spice smoothed by Chartreuse and sweet vermouth.
Honey Badger
With: Fresh rosemary, bourbon, Yellow Chartreuse, ginger syrup, honey syrup, lemon juice, and lemon bitters.
We say: If you like a Penicillin Cocktail, then you'll also like this rosemary, ginger, lemon and honey infused bourbon cocktail, shaken and served on-the-rocks.
Monte Cassino
With: Rye whiskey, Bénédictine D.O.M, Yellow Chartreuse, and lemon juice.
We say: The robust flavours of rye combine harmoniously with the other ingredients in this riff on The Last Word.
Naked & Famous
With: Mezcal, Aperol aperitivo, Yellow Chartreuse and lime juice
We say: Salmon pink in colour. Mezcal adds earthy smoky complexity to this bittersweet, citrusy fresh, aperitivo cocktail. Getting naked can certainly help you become famous.
Nuclear Banana Daiquiri
With: White overproof rum, Yellow Chartreuse, falernum, lime juice, and fresh banana.
We say: To quote our friends at Hawksmoor, where we discovered this delicious and indulgent cocktail, "Our take on a drink that doesn't take itself too seriously by the later, great Gregor de Gruyther. We've just added half a banana and blitzed it. Silly, but tasty.
Widow's Kiss
With: Calvados, Bénédictine D.O.M, Yellow Chartreuse, and aromatic bitters.
We say: Herbal with hints of apple, mint and eucalyptus. This classic cocktail is often made with Green Chartreuse but I prefer as per classic recipes with half Yellow Chartreuse and half Bénédictine.
Xanthia
With: Dry gin, cherry brandy liqueur, Yellow Chartreuse, and Bob's Abbotts bitters.
We say: A couple of dashes of bitters adds balance and complexity to this herbal gin-laced cherry flavoured after- dinner cocktail.
